CLUB HISTORY
The club was formed in
1983 by 6 people whose common interest were
flying radio controlled model helicopters.
Knowing there were a lot of people in the area
going it alone, the club was formed to bring
these people together
so they could combine
knowledge and experience and reach a higher
standard of flying skills.
Unlike today's
models, the helicopters around at this time had
very basic electrics,
which made them a lot
harder to fly compared to the models of today.
Gyro's, governors and computerised radio sets
were almost unheard of and the gyro's that did
come along were mainly mechanical rather than
electronic based.
Engine technology, rotor blade
design and the helicopter kits have changed a
lot from twenty years ago.
The club originally flew at Baiter in Poole,
then moved on to Hamworthy and then Lychett Matravers until we had a problem with noise.
We now have 2 fields which we rotate between on a monthly basis, one at Broom hill in Ferndown and the other at Morden.
The idea behind rotating fields is to allow members to still fly should one of our fields have a problem
and also it gives members a change of scenery once a month and keeps the noise nuisance to a minimum.
The main aim of setting up the club was to first promote and demonstrate that
flying a model helicopter can be flown in a safe and controlled manner and you can have fun flying them.
The club supports all types of helicopters, from 3d aerobatic machines to the more detailed scale models
and the new bread of micro electric's. Safety has and will always be one of the clubs major key objectives.
Whilst flying model helicopters can be fun, they can also be very dangerous when things go wrong.
The club has an excellent record on safety and will continue to monitor and change
safety procedures as needed to make sure all members have a safe environment to fly in.
MEMBERSHIP 2010.
The club is currently full and not accepting members for 2010.
A 3 month trial membership for new
members will be £53.00 non-refundable
(£14 club
membership + £29 for the BMFA insurance plus a
joining fee of £10.)
At the end of this 3 months probation period the membership would be reviewed,
and if full membership is agreed then a further £38.00 would be payable for full membership.
(Making total of £91.00 with BMFA or £62.00 with own BFMA insurance - Discounted after 1st July).
If you already have your own BMFA insurance, proof will be required before you can fly.
Please note club membership and BMFA insurance runs from January to December.
